Contribute to the ELH&TS

Would you like to help Erie Lackawanna Historical & Technical Society in our mission to further the knowledge of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western, Erie and Erie Lackawanna? First and foremost, becoming an active, participating member and sharing your knowledge of the railroads is the most valuable contribution of all.

Contributing Authored Content

Are you working on a modeling project relating to the railroads and would be willing to write an article about your work? Are you building a model railroad based on one or more of the railroads and would like to share your research, design and construction experiences? Maybe you have been independently researching one of the roads operations in the city or town in which you grew up. Why not share it with others through the ELH&TS?

Maybe it is a collection of memories and vignettes about the railroads as a railfan, patron or former employee. Possibly you have second hand recollections and stories passed down by a relative from another generation who worked for, traveled on or was an enthusiast of the railroads, all of these add to an understanding of the railroads and bring it to a personal, human level. It isn't only about locomotives, rolling stock and right or way, it is about the people who lived, worked and used the railroads, they are an equally important facet of the whole story.

You aren't an author you say? We have members who are willing to help with editing and story development who will be happy to assist you.

So if you are a modeler, historian, railfan, former patron or former employee, please consider contributing to the ELH&TS web site so others may benefit from your knowledge. It cannot be stressed enough how important this is to continuing to keep the memory of these railroads and the people who lived and worked with them more than just a memorial.

Contributing Historical Material

Do you have pictures or slides of the railroads you would be willing to make available for the virtual archive? Paper items such as track charts, public or employee time tables or forms used in the operation of the railroads? All of these items and more are important in two ways; the first is as content for the archive. Another is they can help provide material which might enhance an article or column. The larger the base of material we have to illustrate columns and feature articles, the more useful they will be to all members. The ELH&TS will make every effort to respect your wishes in how the material may be used.

If you do have items to share, prior to sending anything please contact the webmaster and provide a brief explanation of what it is. We have specific needs with respect to image scanning requirements, digital photos, etc., which you should be aware of. If you do not have the capability to provide scanned images or digital photos, but are willing to allow the Society to scan or photograph your material, arrangements can be made for this as well.
